Maths

At Willowbrook Mead Primary Academy, we want to develop children to become confident mathematicians who are passionate about their learning.

Children in Key Stages 1 and 2 have a daily maths lesson in their classrooms which is differentiated to suit the abilities of each child. An additional arithmetic/times table  session takes place weekly in Years 2-6. It is a fast-paced session with the aim of improving rapid mental recall and fluency.

Children are encouraged to approach mathematical tasks openly, and consider the appropriateness of different methods. We use a variety of resources across the school to introduce mathematical concepts and are encouraged to use these during their maths activities.

The whole school Calculation Policy is used to ensure consistency across the school. This outlines expectations for each year group and explains how models and images can be used to teach key concepts.

Times Table Rockstars

Times Tables Rockstars is a website that lets children practice their times table in a fun, engaging and rewarding way. It lets them create and build a cool avatar, join a battle of bands against other classes and compete in times tables festivals against children around the world!
In either paper form or online, Times Tables Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice.
Each week concentrates on a different times table, with a recommended consolidation week for rehearsing the tables that have recently been practised every third week or so.

Once you are on the website you will be asked to login.

Start typing in “Willowbrook Primary Academy” and click on the school’s name when it appears.

Then put in your username and password to login. Each child will have been given their logins by their teacher.

You can also practise developing fluency at home with Times Tables in other ways. Please click here to find out more…. Developing Fluency with Times Tables
